Dr. Govindaba Venkataswamy was born on 1 October 1989 in Vadamalapuram in Tamil Nadu.
NEW DELHI: Google today honors Dr. Govinda Venkataswamy, an ophthalmologist, on his 100th birthday with an innovative drawing.
Dr. Govindaba Venkataswamy, known as Friends and Patients under the name of Dr. V, is the founder of the Aravind Eye Hospital. The hospital began as a small 11-bed facility that changed the way eye diseases are treated in the country.

Dr. Govindaba Venkataswamy was born on 1 October 1918 in Vadamalapuram in Tamil Nadu. At an early age of 30, Dr. Govindaba Fincataswamy was permanently injured with rheumatoid arthritis. However, despite his health problems, nothing could stop him from wanting to do.

Dr. Govindaba Venkataswamy joined a school in his village where students were writing on the sand collected from the river bank where there was no pencil and paper. He then went on to study chemistry at the American College in Madurai. He received a master's degree from Stanley Medical College in Madras in 1944.

After leaving the medical school, Dr. Govindaba Venkataswamy joined the Indian Army Medical Corps to work in obstetrics - a branch of medicine related to pregnancy and childbirth. However, his career did not last with the army because he had rheumatoid arthritis. It was so severe that Dr. Govindaba Vincataswamy was bedridden for almost a year.

However, he returned to the Faculty of Medicine and received a degree in ophthalmology in 1951. He learns surgical procedures to remove cataracts, one of the main causes of blindness.
